My Big Shiny Helmet – Ceramic 2005

These pieces take the traditional craft skills of ceramics and turn them on their head.  Drawing on Matt's background in museums, the pieces expore what happens when diverse ideas and objects are brought together in one place.  Each piece is made by hand - either handbuilt or thrown on a wheel - before the surfaces are drawn onto and screenprinted.  Layers of imagery are built up during the making process and the pieces are refired a number of times to produce the finished surfaces.

The work is exhibited widely.  For a list of current shows, click on exhibitions.
